What controls the mileage count(er) in a 1992 Chysler 5th Ave/New Yorker?
I recently replaced the shift cable on my wifes car, immediately after putting it all back together, the mileage count went out.
(digital dash) The trip meter still lights up, but does not count the miles either.
Am I looking for a sending unit or sensor? If so, what is its proper name, and location in the tranny?
BTW, everything else in the dash (and car) works like it is supposed to.
You actually have 3 speed sensors on your transmission.
The most likely is an output speed sensor, it is the closest to where you would have been working. There's an input and output speed sensor on the front side of the transmission (radiator side). They both look the same, and are at the same height on the trans, the input sensor is just under the trans oil cooler lines, the output sensor is closer to the left fender.
The other sensor is the Vehicle speed sensor, it is located on the back side of the transmission (firewall side) on the right side output extension. This is where the right side (passengers) axle goes into the transmission, the sensor is located on the top of that extension.
It is possible you knocked one of the wires loose or broke one while replacing the cable, check them out and see.
Another possibility is that the odometer itself has broken. If the speedometer still works, it's a possbility anyway.
